To become the leading Educational Institution for the Hospitality Industry in the Caribbean

About the School

The José A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts is dedicated to the development of the Hospitality and Culinary Arts industries by offering Associate and Bachelor degrees in the related fields. The School began its Bachelor Degree program at the Carolina UNE Campus in August 1997. In May 1997, the José A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts acquired the Hotel School of Puerto Rico (Isla Verde) from the Puerto Rico Tourism Company that was offering certificate programs in such areas as culinary arts, bartending and travel agency. The School relocated its Isla Verde certificate programs to the Carolina Campus in January 2003 when its new learning center was opened. The School building greatly enhanced the delivery of quality learning opportunities through the support of state-of-the-art labs, modern classrooms and access to new learning technology systems.

The Jose A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality & Culinary Arts counts with a modern building designed for the teaching of all its programs with four state-of-the-art Kitchen Laboratories, a Bartending Lab, a Demo Kitchen Amphitheater, a Teaching Restaurant, a Multipurpose Mini Ballroom, and 8 modern classrooms with wireless internet access. The $8M facility clearly demonstrates the University’s long-term commitment to become the leading educational Institution for the hospitality industry in the Caribbean. Our School at the Carolina UNE campus is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA); the Middles States Association; the American Culinary Federation (ACF), and licensed by the Puerto Rico Education Council.

With almost 20 years of being established, the School based at the main UNE campus at Carolina is constantly improving its curriculum and programs. Recently, the School expanded its Associate degree programs in Culinary Arts and Hotel Operations from the main Carolina UNE Campus to our Cabo Rojo campus. Also a Bachelor Program in Culinary Nutrition was established in August 2015.

Each year new and trained staff is needed to accommodate the demand of capable and well educated staff within the Hospitality and Culinary Arts industries. As a result of this exciting and sustainable growth in hospitality industry, graduates of higher education hospitality and culinary arts programs have excellent career opportunities when they combine practical work experience along with their formal education. Graduates are not only able to secure careers that assure quality life standards but have global mobility capable of finding employment opportunities in most countries. The José A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts is committed to support students in obtaining both work experiences and internships that augment and complement their classroom learning.
